Last month, we had the pleasure of experiencing the captivating city of Paris, which had been on my bucket list for years. It was a trip filled with iconic landmarks, rich history, and, of course, exceptional cuisine. I wanted to share some highlights from our time there. We had three jam-packed days, experiencing the must-see and do on a first-timer trip (save a short visit many years ago for a few short hours and a long drive from Le Havre!) to this beautiful city.
Our first day began with a visit to the remarkable Cathedral of Notre Dame. It was truly inspiring to witness the progress of the restoration efforts firsthand. We were fortunate to be able to go inside and admire the stunning interior, with the scaffolding now primarily visible on the exterior. The play of light through the stained glass was particularly memorable. Following our visit to Notre Dame, we immersed ourselves in the art world at the Musée d'Orsay. Housed in a beautifully preserved former railway station, the museum offers an impressive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces. We enjoyed the opportunity to view works by renowned artists and appreciate their unique perspectives on Parisian life and landscape.
Our second day was dedicated to exploring two significant aspects of Parisian culture. We began at the Louvre Museum, a truly vast and impressive institution. Based on our experience, engaging a knowledgeable guide is highly recommended for a visit to the Louvre. The sheer scale of the museum can be overwhelming, and a guide can provide valuable context and efficiently navigate you to key works of art, ensuring a more enriching and focused experience.
In the afternoon, we ventured into the historic Le Marais district, specifically its vibrant Jewish quarter. Visiting on a Friday afternoon provided a fascinating glimpse into the community's preparations for the Sabbath, offering a unique cultural perspective. We were invited to tour the synagogue, really a small “yeshiva”, an orthodox learning center, by an overzealous (in more than one way!) student from Brooklyn. I think he just wanted to speak “Brooklyn” for a few minutes when he discovered Rich was originally from there, too.
Day three began with a delicious foodie tour of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. This provided an excellent opportunity to sample local delicacies and learn about the area's culinary traditions. What a fun and flavorful way to experience the neighborhood.

Later that day, we took a trip to the magnificent Palace of Versailles, pictured at the beginning of this article. While our visit preceded the full spring bloom of the gardens, the interior of the palace was nonetheless breathtaking. The opulent décor, particularly the Hall of Mirrors, offered a fascinating insight into French royal history and grandeur.
Beyond the iconic sites, we also indulged in the exceptional culinary scene of Paris, including memorable meals at two Michelin-star restaurants. These dining experiences were truly highlights, showcasing the artistry and innovation of French gastronomy.
Our time in Paris was a well-rounded experience, encompassing art, history, and exceptional food. It's a city that offers something for every traveler, and we left with a deep appreciation for its rich culture and enduring charm. We certainly hope to return in the future to explore even more of what Paris has to offer.
Hopefully, this glimpse into our Parisian adventure has inspired you. Whether you're drawn to the art, the history, the food, or simply the atmosphere, a trip to Paris is an experience you won't soon forget.
